Does Chipotle Take Apple Pay? (Find Out)

does Chipotle take apple pay

Whether you are craving a burrito, taco, salad, or sofrito, Chipotle is often the first place to visit. With almost 2900 restaurants in and outside of the United States, Chipotle remains one of the most famous fast-casual dining places.

With so many customers lining up for their signature food offerings, Chipotle understandably has various valid payment methods. However, it remained one of the few big names in the fast-food market not to accept Apple Pay in-store. Luckily, that seems to have changed.

After reports of the company working towards taking contactless pay, like Apple Pay, in-store, it looks Chipotle has finally onboarded the technology at their restaurants. However, some people still may not be able to use Apple Pay physically at Chipotle, but there is a way around it through the app.

Read on to learn how you can use Apple Pay at Chipotle and what to do if your local outlet still does not support the service.

Is Apple Pay Accepted At All Chipotle Locations?

As I said, Chipotle has started rolling out contactless payment technology in its restaurants from 2020, and thus, Apple Pay might not be available at all locations at the moment. However, you will probably soon start seeing the Apple Pay acceptance sign on their card readers. As of now, some Chipotle locations accept Apple pay in-store while others do not.

If Chipotle in your local area still does not accept Apple Pay in the restaurant, you can use the payment method via their app (more on this later).

How To Use Apple Pay In Chipotle?

If your local Chipotle accepts Apple Pay, you will be able to see an Apple Pay sign on the restaurant or the card reader. If that is the case, you can use your iPhone and Apple Watch to pay for the order, considering you have already set up Apple Pay on your gadgets.

Essentially, all Apple Pay does is transform any major credit or debit card into a contactless payment method, which does not require you to enter payment information physically. When in-store, you can either use your iPhone or Apple Watch to use Apple Pay, and both methods are pretty straightforward.

Paying with iPhone

Find the side button on your gadget and click it two times to pay with your iPhone. You will need to authenticate your payment using Face ID for phones supporting a Face ID. Alternatively, you can enter the passcode for the same.

However, do not be worried if your iPhone only supports Touch ID. In that case, putting your finger on the Touch ID sensor will work for authentication.

If you want to switch to another card from your default card, click on the default card and take your pick. After choosing a new card, you will need to authenticate again for the payment to go through.

Now, all you have to do is palace your phone near the card reader to make the purchase. You will see a tick mark and a “done” notification on your screen.

Paying with Apple Watch

Paying with your Apple Watch is also pretty similar to an iPhone payment. You begin with clicking the side button on your Watch twice to see your default card. If you scroll down and pick another card for payment, this can be changed.

Once you have selected the card, holding the Watch near the card reader will result in a beep and a soft tap, indicating the payment has gone through.

Can You Use Apple Pay On Chipotle’s App?

Some Chipotle locations still do not accept Apple Pay. While you can ask the representatives for information about the payment solution, there is a way you can still purchase food with Apple pay in the meanwhile.

While some Chipotle locations may not take Apple Pay, their app has been taking it as a valid payment method for some time. Thus, if you can only use Apple Pay, you can order through the app and have your food ready to be picked up when you reach the location.

To use Apple Pay in-app, use it as the preferred payment method. Tapping on the Apple Pay button also makes the same choice for you. You will automatically be charged on your default card unless you choose another one, which can be done by tapping the Next button or the menu expansion button.

If you are using Apple Pay for the first time, you may be required to enter shipping and billing information, which will automatically be saved for future purchases. Payment confirmation through iPhone and Apple Watch is the same on the app as in-store. When paying through the app, you can also use your iPad or Mac for Apple Pay.

How Do You Know Which Chipotle Locations Accept Apple Pay?

I have explained how some Chipotle locations may still not support Apple payment in the restaurant. In such a case, when you’re still unsure about whether or not you can use Apple Pay at your local Chipotle, there are a few ways to confirm.

According to Apple, the payment method is available when you see an Apple Pay or contactless payment sign in stores. However, if you do not want to make the trip to the location to check whether it accepts the payment method, there is another trick to find out its compatibility.

You can use Maps to search for places that accept Apple Pay. If you search for your local Chipotle on Apple Maps, Clicking on the “Useful to Know” section will show information about Apple Pay acceptance. If you see an Apple Pay sign there, it means that the restaurant accepts Apple Pay.

Bottom Line

All in all, some Chipotle locations have started accepting Apple Pay as a valid payment solution in the restaurant. However, the support does not extend to all its sites as yet.

If your local Chipotle does not take Apple Pay in-store or does not support contactless payment, you can still play from your mobile through their app. When pre-ordering your Chipotle meal through the app, you also have the added perk of having the food ready as you arrive to pick it up.
