Paying for items in installments was first used for large, costly items. Nowadays, you can use Afterpay to pay for just about anything no matter the price. But does Target accept Afterpay?
The answer is no, Target does not accept Afterpay as a valid form of payment both in-store and online in the USA. However, it can be used in Target stores across New Zealand and Australia. To find out more about how to use Afterpay at Target, read the article below.
Using Afterpay At Target In-store
First thing’s first, in order to use Afterpay, you must have a smartphone as you will need to download the Afterpay app.
To pay using this system in-store, follow the steps set out below.
Step #1: Download The Afterpay App
We recommend doing this beforehand, but there is no reason why you can’t download it just before scanning your items. This may be risky if your signal is weak though.
Once Afterpay has successfully downloaded you will need to:
- Create an account
- Add the Afterpay Card to your digital wallet
Step #2: Choose Your Items
Target has a minimum spend when using Afterpay of $100, the limit set by other stores may vary. Once you have reached this amount (or more), you can take your items to be scanned by a cashier, or at a self-checkout.
Step #3: Pay Using Apple Pay
Now that your Afterpay Card has been activated in your digital wallet, you can pay for your items using Google Pay or Apple pay.
Top tip: Always make sure the selected retailer accepts this method of payment beforehand, or you may end up walking out of the store empty-handed!
Using Afterpay At Target Online
Using Afterpay when shopping with Target online is even easier, especially if you already have an Afterpay account (although don’t worry if you don’t yet have one).
Here’s a small guide on how to use Afterpay at Target online:
Step #1: Place your items in the basket
Click on the items you desire before adding them to your basket. You will then need to select the ‘Pay Now’ option.
Step #2: Select Afterpay As The Payment Method
The payment section will give you a choice of payment methods, from which you should select Afterpay. If you don’t have an account, you can quickly create one.
Step #3: Complete The Payment
In order to do this, the Target website will take you to the Afterpay website (or app if using a smartphone) to complete the transaction. Once the payment is successful, you will be taken back to the Target website.
Why Use Afterpay?
Afterpay is ideal if you want to Buy Now Pay Later. Why pay the full cost all at once when you don’t have to?
This idea of spreading the cost of items is convenient for those on a budget who may need to make a large purchase but can’t afford to pay the full price of the transaction all in one go.
Does Using Afterpay Incur Fees?
Afterpay does not charge users interest, but you will incur late fees if you do not make payments on time. This is why it is so important to never miss a payment as it could affect your credit score and cost you more than what your items were worth in the first place!
What Is The Maximum Spending Limit When Using Afterpay At Target?
The maximum spending limit is set at $1000 both in-store and online.
What Can I Purchase Using Afterpay at Target?
You can use Afterpay to purchase any items except the following:
Alcohol
Personal hygiene products
Medication (for colds, digestion, and allergies)
Muscle treatments
If you need to buy the above items at the same time, you will need to separate them from the eligible products and use a different method of payment to purchase them.
How To Get A Refund Using Afterpay
To get a refund in-store, simply take your items to the Customer Services desk along with your receipt. Then you will need to follow these steps:
- Open up the Afterpay app before selecting the ‘in-store’ option
- Locate the ‘How It Works’ tab n the top right corner
- Choose ‘How Do I Return An Order’
- Select the tab titled ‘Make An Afterpay Card Return’
- Choose ‘Refund To Afterpay Card’
This will then prompt your digital wallet to open with the Afterpay Card on the screen. Then, all you need to do is hold your phone up to the card reader until you hear a ‘ping’. This sound indicates a successful transaction.
To Conclude
Target only accepts Afterpay as a valid method of payment in Australia and New Zealand. Unfortunately, this is not an option in US Target stores or online.
